Lose yourself

“We lose ourselves in the things we love. We found ourselves there to.”

I came across this quote last week. A simple, but profound few sentences. Sometimes they are the best. A book is great, a film, a blog, a poem…all fantastic and can speak volumes to a man; but sometimes one or two sentences hit home in a much more powerful way.

We must lose ourselves to find ourselves.

I have regularly written about my passions and the things that make me tick. Outdoors. Adventure. Excitement. Of pushing myself on the hills, mountains and trails. I like to lose myself in nature. I recently went camping for on my own in the Lake District. My itinerary was simple. Arrive and set camp. Put beers in the river to chill. Run up big hills. Drink cold beers and eat BBQ’d lamb. Sleep. Porridge. Run up hills. Breakfast. Coffee. Home.

It was beautiful. I spoke to 2 people all weekend. I had no phone and no watch and no GPS. And I came home like I’d just had a month of holiday. Refreshed and re-connected.

I was never lost, but in that weekend I found myself again. I found my core, my being, my soul.

We must lose ourselves to find ourselves.

I want to write about losing ourselves in something much greater than outdoors, adventure and hobbies. I want to write about losing ourselves in the Holy Spirit.

I recently wrote a blog called Ruach all about the power of the Holy Spirit and I’d recommend a quick read of it.

The Holy Spirit is the presence of God on the earth. And we have the ability to connect with Him in an instant.

If you allow yourself to connect with God, you will feel His presence. His Spirit; The Holy Spirit. It doesn’t have to be in church or in worship. It can be anywhere and at anytime.

My brother Mike is a very gifted worship leader and song writer at our church, Life Church in Bradford. He recently wrote a song called Nothing Here Is Broken. That song has a real connection with heaven. It is truly beautiful. The song features the line “Spirit come and breath fire in our soul”. This is such a profound and powerful line. The Holy Spirit can and will come to you and breathe fire into you again. Whether you are far from Him or close to Him, in that moment, He will ignite you with power and love. You are not lost, but you can find yourself again. You can find your dreams, your fun, your freedom, your adventure, your friendships, your passions.

If we lose ourselves in the Holy Spirit and in His power, we will find our ourselves again.

We must lose ourselves to find ourselves.

Much love,

Hey there would you mind stating which blog platform you’re using? I’m going to start my own blog soon but I’m having a tough time choosing between BlEeWnging/oordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your layout seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something unique. P.S My apologies for getting off-topic but I had to ask!
