The last month or so I have be pondering the following phrase:
“In our culture we have put increasing value on authenticity and a decreasing focus on integrity”. (McManus, 2003)
I absolutely agree that being authentic is a fundamental and vital part of freedom, but never at the expense of integrity.
“Sorry I’m late again. It’s just the way I am”. Authentic – yes. Integral – no.
“….I’m just saying it like it is”. No, you’re just being rude.
Living a life flowing with integrity is so much more than ‘letting your yes be yes and no be no’. Integrity demands constant change, daily updates and a mindset that is totally consistent and totally flexible at the same time.
1. “The state of being whole and undivided”.
2. “Internal consistency”.
Your diary dates will change at the drop of a hat to accommodate others. Your emotions may change however, your fruit never changes because your internal core value never changes.
You aren’t aggressive.
You aren’t passive.
You aren’t arrogant.
You aren’t indifferent.
You are stable.
You are consistent.
You are beautiful.
You are united.
You are whole.
Authentic – absolutely!
Integral – absolutely!
Two life changing characteristics that can bring freedom to your soul.
Much love. Rob
